Do I really need a Home Inspection?
Here are some reasons you should never skip out!
The million-dollar question or should I say the “could cost you a million” dollar question is if you really need a home inspection.
The short is answer is, you should under no circumstances skip having in an inspection done to any property being purchased no matter how clean or renovated it looks.
Through the years it’s come to my attention that most or a lot of the houses that remodeled and sold are fix n’ flips, which end up being a nightmare in disguise. Not to take away from the professional craftsmen that do a great renovation job, but most flips are done in a fashion to cut costs and maximize profit, shortcuts. These shortcuts come in poor quality work, poor quality materials, and hiding or temporarily fixing issues to make it past a buyer’s eye.
Unfortunately, it’s common seeing buyers skip out on an inspection and end up with a money pit of fix up costs.
This became extremely popular during the height of the Covid pandemic when skipping out on inspections and buying properties sight unseen was a bargaining chip to win home buying bid wars. Many buyers after getting an accepted offer or even after CLOSING hired an inspection company to see evaluate their new homes and sometimes found out that they jumped the gun and purchased a nightmare house.
Some but not all the problems that they began encountering were:
Old corroded cast iron drain pipes
Old HVAC systems
Polybuteline supply plumbing lines
Mold
Old leaky roofs
These are major issues that sometimes can’t be seen, and when missed can cost anywhere north of $5,000.00+ And some north of $30,000.00
Even for a trained eye some of these deficiencies can be missed, as we all know buying a home can be, stressful, exciting, and scary all at once.
So, no matter how much you know or may know about the ins and outs of a home or maybe you’re just an HGTV fanatic. Never skip out on a home inspection.
